The impacts of clearcut logging on Goshawks in BC

The large breeding territories of these apex birds, once common throughout BC, require Old Growth forests to survive, raise their chicks and teach them to forage. Large scale clear-cut harvesting, over time, removes the Old Growth structure needed for the birds to forage for their own and their chick's survival. Clear cut harvesting not only removes the majority of old growth structure in these territories, it also has a significant impact on a myriad of wildlife, vertebrate, invertebrate species and soil biodiversity.
